Caffeine: The Working Man's Common Drug

Caffeine has been called the most widely-consumed substance in the world. In every office around the globe, the mass consumption of coffee is evident. Take a quick stroll around your office. Chances are you will see that almost every one of your colleagues has a cup of hot coffee or tea on their desk.

This comes as no surprise considering that it provides incredible benefits to its consumers, both physically and mentally. However, concern over the negative side effects of caffeine is extremely common. It is no wonder that the effects of caffeine are strongly debated.

Every person who has had a cup of coffee or two before a long workday knows that the benefits of caffeine are undeniably great. Caffeine increases memory, stamina, and metabolism. Recent research has found that caffeine has been shown to fight off certain diseases, such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's. On the other hand, coffee has some negative side effects. Oftentimes, caffeine can cause sleep disturbance and higher levels of anxiety and irritability. Caffeine overstimulates the nervous system, which may result in restlessness, mild depression, or an overactive heartbeat.

These negative side effects are typically caused by a consumption of too much caffeine. Two hundred to three hundred milligrams a day, which is about two to four cups of brewed coffee, is the ideal amount for most adults. Surpassing this daily limit usually creates the unwanted side effects. Regulate your caffeine intake in the same way that you should regulate any food or beverage consumption: Anything in moderation!? Moderating your caffeine intake will optimize your performance at work, while avoiding the nasty crashes and comedowns.

Another way to keep yourself comfortable and alert at work is to get yourself a comfortable chair!
