Workplace Woes

One of the most common work place injuries is related to the back. One's posture, comfort and work ethic can all be dictated by the ergonomics of their office. Ergonomics is the study of the office space as it relates to its employees. The purpose of this industry as a whole is to tailor the workplace to the needs of a specific worker, and in doing so, decreasing the likelihood of individuals having back pain or sustaining back injuries in the job. Typically, there are a couple of ways these injuries occur, one is non-accidental injury, where pain arises as a result of normal or assigned tasks at work. Repetitive motion, poor body mechanics, fatigue, are all contributors to this problem and can be cause by being in one position for too long. Another is accidental injury caused by unexpected occurrences cause a shock or strain to sensitive areas of the body. All this results in liability on the part of the employer and/or employee and essentially ends up in inefficiencies, which with proper planning and execution can be a thing of the past, like lead poisoning.

While certain injuries are a part of life, much of the long-term damage we do to our bodies can be avoided by changing some of the routines and appliances involved in our day-to-day activities. We spend about 8 hours sleeping, and almost the same amount of time, if not more, in our offices, so why not make it just as comfortable as where we lay our head?

Ergonomic furniture is a fast growing industry for a reason; research shows that offices that switch from normal furniture to ergonomics furniture have significant increases in productivity and less worker liability. So buy yourself and aeron chair and make for a more comfortable workplace.
